More about the project

Although building codes in Cambridge mandate R38 of insulation in the attic, this 100-year-old building doesn't have a speck of insulation, making it it akin to heating a tent in the winter, very expensive and still drafty and cold.

Installing R38 of insulation will save $33,962 for the Center over the next two decades and stop 144 tons of CO2 from being emitted.

NGE-estimated project metrics

  • Lifetime savings are 137 lbs CO2 and $16 energy costs per dollar donated
  • A $5 donation eliminates 687 lbs of CO2 and saves $81
  • A $25 donation eliminates 3,437 lbs of CO2 and saves $404
  • A $14.39 donation eliminates one ton of CO2 and saves $236

More about The Democracy Center

Located in Harvard Square, The Democracy Center hosts over 500 events annually. It helps progressives network and build community, and it also provides office space to sustainability organizations such as Students for a Just and Stable Future and Avaaz.

Installing attic insulation will make the office and community spaces more comfortable, while saving 26 percent  of the heating bill for decades to come. NSTAR rebates, and donations from HEET, the Chorus Foundation, Cambridge Agassiz Harvard Fund and others will triple your project-support donation

I am donating to this because I know first hand how much proper heat makes a difference for the hundreds of people and organizations that use Democracy Center. And I know that this will really help Democracy Center reduce its environmental footprint and smartly cut the heating bill! The 1:1 match is a great incentive.

I've already insulated my own attic. This is a great way to reduce more carbon while helping a local center I love.
