This project upgrades interior lighting by installing motion sensors so that lighting is only operated when needed. This is a significant project to upgrade all of our existing interior common-area lighting which runs 24/7. 32 sensors will be installed, which control 37 lights in hallways and stairways.
Last year we replaced our windows, and this summer NGE provided a grant to upgrade our exterior lighting. Many thanks to NGE for helping us scope out this project and prioritize our sustainibility efforts. We are trying to save green by becoming green! Please support this project if you can because it will reduce our substantial energy bills and let us redirect those funds to helping our families.
Lighting is a major electrical expense in many residences, offices, and facilities such as family shelters. Sensors that detect motion and turn on lighting, or timers that automatically turn lighting off, are a great way to lower energy use, with payback times in the 1 to 5 year range depending on the amount of electrical work required to install them. Sensors & timers work especially well for common areas such as bathrooms, hallways, and stairwells. Typical energy savings can be anywhere from 70 to 95% depending on usage.
