Insulating Our Home
Our insulation project is gaining steam and we’ve already raised over $2,000 towards our goal of $6,000, just by encouraging people to sign up for free energy audits. Thanks to everyone who’s signed up and helped spread the word so far!
Our two houses on Magazine St. have stood through almost 100 years of New England winters with no insulation in the walls and it’s time to stop them from leaking energy, wasting money and causing unnecessary greenhouse gas emissions!
For those who haven’t had a chance yet, it works like this – If you get a free energy audit for your apt. or house, the Home Energy Efficiency Team (HEET) will donate $50 to Eitz Chayim’s insulation project. New Generation Energy is helping by hosting this website and keeping track of our progress!
To help the project and save energy in your own home at the same time, click this link. And now through August 1st, if you get solar panels installed via the Cambridge Solar Challenge, you’ll get a 20% discount on the project and $300 will be donated to our fund! (To get the discount, you need to live in Cambridge.)
Neighbors, friends, colleagues and relatives anywhere in Massachusetts are eligible for audits. Just send them the link. If you already had an energy audit, you’re eligible to get a new audit every 12 months – and they’ll give you more free CFL bulbs.
And if you own a multifamily house, then all of the units can get audits which means even more donations.
HEET is the non-profit that helped organize Eitz Chayim’s energy efficiency “barn raising” a few years ago and then they steered an EPA grant towards us so we could install all new energy efficient windows. Now they’re helping us insulate!
This is all part of our effort to lower our environmental and energy impact and become a “greener” congregation. We hope one day it will include solar panels on our roof – which is perfect for solar!
