New Generation Energy’s has helped develop and fund 17 green projects at nonprofits and small businesses nationwide. In total, these projects have eliminated more than 2,900 tons of CO2 -- that’s the equivalent of 501 cars taken off the road and 611 acres of new forest planted.

Weatherization of the Ely Area Senior Citizens Center in Ely, Minn.

To maximize energy savings, the senior center is planning to make significant weatherization improvements in conjunction with a solar project.

New storm windows for Peterborough Unitarian Universalist Church in Peterborough, N.H.

Pleasant Hill Window ProjectProject cost: $13,285

Lifetime energy savings: $67,932 | Lifetime carbon savings: 362,000 lbs

Installing eight energy-efficient storm windows is the final step of this New Hampshire church's "greening" process.

Window installation at the Pleasant Hill Community Church, UCC in Pleasant Hill, Tenn.

The Pleasant Hill Community Church, UCC is installing low emissivity glass in its windows and doors to maximize energy savings.

Solar installation at Aruna’s Place in Sudbury, Mass 

Project cost: $21,000

Funded: Aug.  2, 2011 

Lifetime energy savings: $29, 509 | Lifetime carbon savings: 154,343 lbs

SolSolution -- a nonprofit dedicated to generating clean, renewable electricity at underprivileged schools -- will install solar power at Aruna's Place.

Geothermal installation at Pleasant Hill Community Church, UCC in Pleasant Hill, Tenn.

Project cost: $25,000

Funded: June 16, 2011

Lifetime energy savings: $100,520 | Lifetime carbon savings: 1,809,360, lbs

The Pleasant Hill Community Church, UCC hopes its geothermal installation -- which is just one part of the its green mission -- will inspire other congregations to pursue green energy and energy efficient endeavors. The project is the fastest funded project in the listing site's history -- less than 2 weeks .

New refrigerator for the Cambridge Community Center in Cambridge, Mass.

Project cost: $759

Funded: June 16, 2011

Lifetime energy savings: $3,862 | Lifetime carbon savings: 26,422 lbs

The CCC replaced its old inefficient refrigerator with a new, Energy-Star rated model to save money and energy.

Attic insulation installation at The Democracy Center in Cambridge, Mass.

Project cost: $2,100

Funded: June 16, 2011

The Democracy Center is installing new attic insulation in its 100-year-old building.

Attic insulation and LED lighting installations at First Church in Cambridge in Cambridge, Mass.

Project cost: $7,577

Funded: Dec. 31, 2010

Lifetime energy savings: $120,961 | Lifetime carbon savings: 1,070,590 lbs

To lower energy costs and to keep the sanctuary comfortable year round, the church installed LED lighting and attic insulation.

Window insulation upgrade for lower-income Boston residents in Roxbury and Dorchester, Mass.

Project Cost: $3,520

Funded: Dec. 10, 2010

Lifetime energy savings: $26,867 | Lifetime carbon savings: 206,662 lbs

YouthBuild Boston raised money for a window insulation project that helped 51 low-incomes homeowners in the Boston area.

Interior lighting upgrade at the Elizabeth Stone House in Roxbury, Mass.

Project cost: $11,188

Funded: April 10,  2010

Lifetime energy savings: $70,180 | Lifetime carbon savings: 555,337 lbs

The family shelter installed motion sensors for common-area lights.

Exterior lighting upgrade at the Elizabeth Stone House in Roxbury, Mass.

Project cost: $1,815

Funded: Sept. 8, 2010 

Lifetime energy savings: $13,500 | Lifetime carbon savings: 107,580 lbs

The Elizabeth Stone House replaced its exterior halogen incandescent fixtures with metal halide lighting.

Interior lighting upgrade at the Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence in Boston, Mass.

Project cost: $622

Funded: Sept. 8,  2010 

Lifetime energy savings: $4,096 | Lifetime carbon savings: 32,205 lbs

To save money and energy, NGE helped A.T.A.S.K replace all 85 of its incandescent light bulbs with CFLs.

Appliance upgrade at Woods Edge Daycare in Hudson, Mass.

Project cost: $10,964

Funded: Oct. 6, 2010

Lifetime energy savings: $6,237 | Lifetime carbon savings: 47,750 lbs

This loan helped the children's center purchase and install several energy-efficiency appliances to replace its old inefficient models.

Low-income, nonprofit building efficiency upgrades in Cambridge, Mass.

Funded: July 10, 2010

NGE helped HEET raise money for materials for its low-income building efficiency upgrades.

Geothermal installation at Corrine Weddings in Glastonbury, Conn.

Project cost: $22,464

Funded: Mar. 15, 2010

Lifetime energy savings: $8,292 | Lifetime carbon savings: 147,045 lbs

This loan supports the installation of a ground source heat pump at this small business.

Solar installation at Boston Green Building in Allston, Mass.

Project cost: $21,000

Funded: July 10, 2009

 Lifetime carbon savings: 62 tons

This loan helped BGB install solar panels on its roof. This solar system will offset 62 tons of CO2 over its lifetime, and it provides 90 percent of the company's on-site energy use.

Boston area residential lighting upgrade

Project cost: $1,598

Funded: 2009 

Lifetime energy savings: $31,883 | Lifetime carbon savings: 231,200 lbs

This was an early NGE project involving replacing incandescent bulbs with CFL bulbs at three Boston area residences. In total, 152 bulbs were replaced.

Van Gogh Bicycle Tours lighting upgrade in Rochester, Vt.

Project cost: $427

Funded:  2009 

Lifetime energy savings:  $4,726.79 | Lifetime carbon savings: 45,762 lbs

This was an early NGE project that replaced incandescent light bulbs with CFLs at Van Gogh's Rochester, Vt. facility.
