The Peterborough Unitarian Universalist Church will install six large sanctuary windows and two interior storm panels in its building, significantly lowering its impact on the environment and reducing its energy costs.
The church has recently spent about $30,000 on energy efficiency improvements such as attic insulation and new appliances, and it sees these windows as the final step in it's greening process.
Over the lifetime of the project, the church will save $67,935 and reduce its carbon emissions by 362,000 lbs. Read more about this project's specifics.
The Peterborough UU Church is the most prominent historic building in Peterborough, N.H., and it is listed in the National Historic Register. Built in 1826 and located on Main Street, the church has been the center of town activity for almost 200 years.
In addition to weekly services, more than 20 nonprofits make use of the church year round, including the Peterborough Children Choir and the New Hampshire Dance Institute. The church also serves a free spaghetti dinner to more than 100 people every Wednesday.
