September 8, 2010 ‐ New Generation Energy (NGE) installed high efficiency lighting at the Elizabeth Stone House (ESH), a family shelter in Roxbury, Mass. that helps women and families rebuild their lives after experiencing domestic violence, mental illness, substance abuse, and other forms of trauma.
NGE helped the Elizabeth Stone House reduce its electricity consumption by replacing inefficient halogen external lighting with ultra high efficiency metal halide lighting. This installation was provided free of charge to ESH, and will permanently lower its electricity expenses.
Funding for the project came from 72 individual donors, contributing an average of $22.92 each, via NGE's online project support microfunding site.
Thanks to this installation, Elizabeth Stone House will have lifetime savings of more than $13,500 in electricity costs, letting it redirect precious operating funds to the more than 30 familes that it helps each year.
The individual project supporters who collectively provided the $1,650 for this project created 107,500 lbs of lifetime CO2 emissions reductions -- or an average of 1,493 lbs from each of the 72 donations.
